Instagram is the app that a lot of people were waiting for. You remember the time you went travelling, and you took photos? You then uploaded it onto your computer and then loaded it onto Facebook, now you can do it instantly on your mobile. What travellers really missed was showing their families back home their adventures in real-time. Now we have Facebook live, and we can upload videos onto Instagram and tell stories.
41% of Instagram users are 24 years old or under in the US, and if you think about it, Generation Z has been born with the Internet, and so will all generations to come. The older generation has to keep up with the times because businesses no longer rely on the market supporting their physical business on the street, you might just get a competitor the next day, and you might just have another economic crisis. Companies don’t want to spread themselves thin anymore and want the big piece of the pie which is online where crowds hang out in groups and if majority of the groups are using Instagram then that is where businesses want to go and market.

Instagram is the preferred social media platform for most businesses because marketing is affordable, and with the use of hashtags, you can still have a high level of engagement doing unpaid advertising. Instagram gives you value for what you’re paying in terms of marketing, giving you brand awareness and engagement quickly and easily. Setting a marketing campaign by demographics and finding your market is easy to set up.
According to eMarketer, 84.9% of people use their mobile device to access apps, and as off November 2017, 101 042 000 mobile users accessed Instagram. People are tired of being sold to, and engagement is made from stories; emotional, visual and written content.
Businesses use Instagram because it’s easy to set up a campaign, it’s cheap, it has higher engagement rates, has a huge amount of brand awareness, easy to link campaigns to e-commerce sites, find where your market is hanging out through the metrics provided by Instagram when setting up a campaign; through interests, age and country.
